AJAX Yahoo! Mail not working
May 30, 2008 on 4:37 pm | In General |Yahoo! seems to have changed the mail layout in the classic mode. These days I am busy with other things, if you feel you need to use it just leave a comment. If there are enough comments and there are enough users who want it I will make the changes.

Depends a bit on which country’s Yahoo Mail, but yeah the domestic US kind of classic mail got changed (improved a bit, I’d argue). It’s no priority, but it sure would be nice to see the AJAX functionality of this add-on restored, thanks. I think they’re still working on stuff though, particularly the integration with the adress book isn’t finished yet (e.g. either all mails get the “contacts” flag, or none). We’ll see, in any case I usually prefer Classic over the new Yahoo mail.

I also prefer Yahoo classic and would like to see the preview functionality restored. Thanks.

I never realized how much I came to rely on the preview function. It would be really cool to see it restored.
Thanks

I’ve not witnessed any issues, though I’m using Yahoo! classic in the UK so perhaps problems await me.
From time to time I trial the “new” Yahoo! interface but always find myself switching back (it’s too slow) so if this add-on continues to be supported I’d be very grateful.
Thanks.

Honestly we need it, as me and my friends never wanted to use the new version, we agreed that it’s too slow. Especially when you are living in a country with slow internet connections.

I have been using this extension for a while now and I got so familiar with it. My main email is yahoo so it would be much easier to browse through emails using this feature. Just a few more words: I MISS IT!

I would love if you could make time to fix this extension, as I have gotten so used to using it! It’s such a great little add-on.

Thanks for all your comments. I had a look at the code and it will be a complete rewrite.
Though at first glance it might not look different but internally its an entirely new application.
With little or no time these days I am not sure when I will be able to rewrite the code. But given the fact that the earlier code was written in less than a day it would still require a day and a lot of motivation to rewrite the code.

That said, it would have to be a rewrite for Firefox 3.0 anyway, since it’s one of the countless addons that work only up to V2.0 … :/
And I don’t want to try editing the version number check in install.rdf, the addon strikes me as too complex for that trick.
Comment by aroi — June 20, 2008 #
Changing the version in install.rdf won’t work for this extension as Yahoo! has modified things at their end.
To make this extension work it will require a complete rewrite.

For those who still have the unchanged “Classic” mail (like me, in some accounts) and for the time being also want to use the add-on in Firefox 3.0: the trick with changing the “em:maxVersion” value in the install.rdf does work - within limits. The little GUI graphic elements are broken (or, don’t load), so the addon is not 100% compatible with the new Firefox; but the fields are still clickable and working, so the AJAX functionality is working just fine. :)

OMG, Viamatic’s AJAX Yahoo! Mail is the *one* add-on I would have trouble living without — it’s all about productivity. Its utterly usefulness and non-intrusive nature are brill. Brill.

I love this extension. Please update it!

The AJAX function is very useful. The new yahoo feature is simply too slow and can’t even match up with the AJAX extention! Plsss…..update it
